Jam for Janie’s 2026 marked Steven Tyler’s return to the stage with a six-song set, sounding strong and confident overall. While he did not give any press interviews, Tyler was visibly emotional on the red carpet prior to the event, holding back tears while posing for photos with the girls supported by the charity.
Beyond the performance itself, the evening underscored the emotional core of Jam for Janie’s through remarks delivered by Tyler during the gala portion of the night. Marking ten years of Janie’s Fund, he reflected on the organisation’s mission and longevity, repeatedly emphasising themes of healing, presence, and what he described as “choosing love over silence.” He linked the Fund’s work back to Janie’s Got a Gun, released more than three decades ago, noting how the song’s message has evolved into something tangible and enduring through the programs now in place.
Tyler spoke openly about the progress achieved over the past decade, while also acknowledging the lasting impact of trauma carried by the girls and young women supported by the Fund. Using metaphors ranging from cracked vessels to the Japanese art of kintsugi, he described brokenness not as something to be hidden, but as a place where strength, resilience, and light can still emerge when supported with care. The speech was framed less as a celebration of himself and more as an expression of gratitude toward long-standing partners, organisers, performers, and donors who have sustained the Fund since its earliest days.
The most emotionally charged moment of the evening came when Tyler recalled an encounter from the opening of the first Janie’s Fund house in 2017. He described meeting a young girl who had just arrived and was sitting alone on a bench in the woods. When he asked her what she loved most, she replied through tears, “I’m not afraid to close my eyes at night, and I can sleep peacefully.” As Tyler repeated the story onstage, he visibly broke down, pausing before adding, “Ten years later, Janie doesn’t need a gun.” The moment drew a prolonged reaction from the room and marked a clear emotional peak in his address.
In that context, Tyler’s subsequent return to the stage later in the night felt secondary to the broader purpose of the event. While the live set included moments of tension and improvisation, the evening as a whole reaffirmed that Jam for Janie’s remains first and foremost a mission-driven gathering rather than a conventional comeback performance. Tyler closed his remarks by reiterating that the night was “for the girls,” stressing the importance of safe spaces, ongoing therapeutic care, and a future shaped by compassion, stability, and continued belief.
Setlist (Steven Tyler on vocals)
- Back in the Saddle ft Yungblud
- Mama Kin
- Walking the Dog
- Last Child
- Come Together
- More Than Words
Back in the Saddle was tuned down to D from its original key of E, marking its first live performance since the September 2023 show. It was an unexpected choice given the song’s demanding high-register vocals, and some felt it was a missed opportunity to perform My Only Angel instead. Overall, the song selection leaned toward more vocally challenging material compared to the safer, near-spoken performances of Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion that have featured in previous Jam for Janie’s appearances.
Throughout the set, Tyler appeared unhappy with his mix, possibly due to an IEM issue. At one point, it appeared that he lost the IEM receiver pack entirely. During Mama Kin, a technician briefly adjusted it for him, but by Come Together it seemed to be gone, with Tyler visibly searching for it onstage without success.
After the main set, Tyler attempted to perform More Than Words with Nuno Bettencourt. Tyler requested a stool, which wasn’t immediately available. Bettencourt said he had “no voice,” though Tyler handled his vocal parts well once the song was underway.
Adding to the emotional weight of the night was Tyler’s appearance without Aimee, further fuelling speculation that their reported split may be real, alongside the broader context of the upcoming trial related to the long-running allegations against him. It was also confirmed that Tyler will not participate in any press appearances until after the court case involving Julia Holcomb concludes in May 2026.
Ultimately, however, the focus of the evening remained firmly on the cause itself. Jam for Janie’s once again centred on the girls and young women the charity supports, reinforcing that, despite the complexities surrounding the artist, the heart of the night was about providing safety, care, and the chance to finally rest peacefully.
