Big Ones is one of the many compilation albums by the American rock band Aerosmith, released on November 1, 1994 by Geffen Records. Big Ones featured 12 hits from the band’s three consecutive multi-platinum albums, Permanent Vacation (1987), Pump (1989), and Get a Grip (1993), as well as the hit, “Deuces are Wild” from The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience (1993), and two new songs, “Blind Man” and “Walk on Water”, which were recorded during a break in the band’s Get a Grip Tour.

Sessions for the new tracks took place in April 1994 at The Power Station, New York City, New York, and in June 1994 at Capri Digital Studios, Capri, Italy.

At the time, Tom Hamilton was quoted in the media as saying that the band had to choose from 4 new songs to be included in the album.

G: Can you talk about the Greatest Hits album-what’s on it and when will it be out?
T: It’s coming out in October. It’s gonna be called Big Ones. just the Geffen years. And its gonna have two new songs on it. There’s a rocker called “Walk on Water”. The other song is a slow, heavy one called “Blind Man”.
G: Are these songs you recently wrote or one that didn’t make Get a Grip?
T: No, what happened was, we knew we had this coming up, where we’d need these songs. We had a six-week break back in April and in that period Steven and Joe wrote with some other people and came up with four songs and we recorded them all. It’s kind of ironic because when you look at it we virtually recorded half an album in six weeks. Get a Grip took two years. That’s the kind of stuff that just makes me want to rip my hair out! Anyway, we picked the two that we thought were the best for this album and the other two will probably get saved for the next full studio album.

Fans speculated that Wham Bam! could have been one of the four songs considered as it was played in August 1994, just a couple of months after the sessions in Italy. While it is unknown which other songs were remaining, the listing on a 1994 tape may indicate that the remaining two songs were called “Ex” and “Raw Strawberry“. One of the fake bootlegs indicate “Stop Messin´ Around”, “2 Of Us”, and “Keep On Movin´” as tracks recorded for Big One; while those bootlegs were proven to be fake, at least one of the song titles was accurate, with John Kalodner confirmed the track title “Keep On Movin´” as an existing one via his website in 2005.
